The Latino Professional Network held its first event on October 23, 1999 at Club Roca in Downtown Los Angeles.While only a handful of people attended the event, the principal organizers of the event considered it a success because it marked the beginning of a very special vision. When asked to sum up the vision for that night one need look no further than the literature prepared by LPN Founder, Alejandro Menchaca, Esq. It reads: “Un Comienzo Nuevo” ";Tonight’s event at Roca marks a new and exciting beginning. Tonight is the first time that Latino professionals, graduate students, and college students from throughout Southern California have come together to meet in a setting that facilitates open communication and cooperation. This event also marks the genesis of an umbrella organization that seeks to function as a liaison between your respective organizations in the hope that we, as Latinos, forge greater alliances amongst ourselves. A concerted and organized effort will enable us to effectuate significant change in society to the benefit of the Latino population at large."; Nearly 2 years later, the LPN directory has grown from 40 to over 12,000. Our larger networking events now attract between 600-1,200 members. The organization is no longer run from a portable computer in the apartment of one of its founders, but now disseminates its vision of empowerment and change through a state-of-the-art web site, www.lpnonline.com. But even with all the changes and growth, the vision of the LPN remains largely the same as it did nearly 2 years ago. The numerous LPN events all serve to unify Latino professionals and students in celebration. By working together and supporting eachother, our community can achieve tremendous successes.
